What Is Stainless Steel 321 Plate?
The austenitic family of stainless steel includes 321 stainless steel plates. 321 is essentially a 304 grade with a titanium stabilizer added. Type 321 is an excellent choice for situations where heat is a concern. Whereas 304 is typically used up to 500 degrees Celsius, 321 may be utilized in applications up to 900 degrees Celsius. Grade 321 offers exceptional forming and welding properties. It does not shine well and hence would not be suitable for ornamental purposes. Alloy 321 (UNS S32100) is a titanium-stabilized austenitic stainless steel with high corrosion resistance in general. After being exposed to temperatures in the chromium carbide precipitation range of 800 – 1500°F (427 – 816°C), it possesses exceptional resistance to intergranular corrosion. The alloy has stronger creep and stress rupture qualities than alloys 304 and 304L and resists oxidation to 1500°F (816°C). It is also resistant to low temperatures.
